The Power of the President

If I were to ask you to name US presidents who had run for president in the past and failed, you probably couldn't.

Yet in the last hundred years, it's happened three times. Most recently with Ronald Reagan

Every election cycle there are people who've run before and run again. Bernie Sanders has run over and over again, raises hundreds of millions of dollars, runs again and again. He never makes it past the final hoop, but people get so excited and support him each time.

We have presidential candidates who run 20 years apart. They keep coming back.

Most people don't remember that Joe Biden ran for president in 1988 because we don't care what happened 32 years ago. We don't remember him as failed president, we remember him as the vice president under Obama.

We remember the successes.

Whatever end of the political spectrum you're on, it doesn't matter. I tried to give examples from both sides because that's not what this is about.

And what's important is to see that we don't care as a culture about losers. We don't remember them.

When you fail, you're forgotten. And when you succeed, all those failures disappear.

Nobody thinks of Ronald Reagan. As a fraud, a failed presidential candidate from the 70s well, they give us the president from the 80s. It's that powerful.

The only person who cares when you fail is you, yourself. We're so caught up in ourselves that we don't realize that other people don't care about our failures.

And that's important because most people fail their way to the top. They just fail bigger and bigger and bigger until their company's too big to fail, until they find that success.

And over the next few days, I'm going to share a few stories from my own journey about how I failed on the way to the top. So you can see that it's okay to fail.

PS. Fear of something is often stronger than the thing itself.

We're often so afraid of failure that when it actually happens, it's a relief because it's not as scary as we thought it would be.

How many of us haven't asked for a promotion?

Haven't started our own business, haven't tried to lose weight because we're afraid of the feeling of failure, so we don't even try.

It's time to let go of that feeling.

To Your Success!
