If you’ve followed a lot of the social media coaches and gurus for a few years you’ll notice a similar trend…
Their chief strategy is simple:
Post. More. Content.
- Youtube: Daily
- Facebook/Twitter: 3X Daily
- Instagram: 2X Daily
- Tik Tok: 5X Daily (Yes, I’ve seen a handful of entrepreneurs say this)
Now, if you have the ability to post content at this rate and you feel your posts are relevant, engaging, and quality - go for it!
But if you’re a new marketer this advice can feel overwhelming.
It may be difficult enough sending a daily email let alone posting on social media multiple times a day. At what point do we get any work done?!
Well, I’m going to let you in on a little secret.
Algorithms are getting smarter.
These social media channels are becoming more refined.
They know when your posts are well-thought out and perfectly tuned to their audience…
And when you’re just trying to fill space to get more and more views.
See, there was a time when getting ranked on YouTube was as simple as putting in the right keywords.
Now, YouTube evaluates your Likes, comments, watch time, click-through rate, and a host of other factors when evaluating your videos.
Instagram is the same way.
There was a time when flooding the feed was the way to be seen…
But if those posts hardly receive engagement, Instagram will show your posts to fewer and fewer followers.
So what do we do?
While all this news may seem discouraging…
For those just getting started this is actually good.
You’re in a position to start your business off to a healthy start, versus many marketers years ago who were only interested in shady tactics to get attention online.
Have you ever noticed there are some pages or channels with millions of followers and subscribers…
But only a handful of people actually view or engage with their content?
This is because they grew their profile, not by posting high-quality content for their fans, but just around whatever gets the most views and attention.
Not only do their profiles suffer, their sales suffer as well.
I’d rather have 10 followers who are highly engaged and perfectly suited towards my niche than 10,000 who don’t actually care what I have to offer.
So if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the advice from these so-called experts to post on every channel, multiple times a day, I hope today’s newsletter brings a sigh of relief.
I hope today’s newsletter causes you to stop, think about where you want to put your time and energy, and build a posting schedule around what allows you to produce the best possible content, consistently.
Because consistency will ultimately beat quantity when it comes to the algorithm.
If you’re brand new, just focus on sending out those emails to your subscribers once a day.
Then, slowly add in one new social media channel at a time based on your personal schedule and how often you can produce quality content.
And while we certainly have our preferences of what social media channels are working right now, there’s no right channel, there’s only what’s right for you.
Heck, I’ve seen some people crushing it just focusing on answering questions on free forums like Quora and Reddit and having a link in their bio to their affiliate offer.
I’ve seen others having success posting free blog content on sites like Medium and Tumblr.
It doesn’t matter what platform you hope to master, you just need to keep these two words in mind:
- Quality
- Consistency
Boom, there’s your entire content strategy in only 2 words: Quality & Consistency.
Keep those at the forefront of your mind and I promise you’ll be one your way to mastering social media in 2021, no matter what platform you use.
To Your Success!
Steve.
