There’s an old saying that was popularized by Jeff Bezos:
“It Takes 10 Years to Become an Overnight Success.”
Now, when I was researching who originally said this I found some funny results.
People were actually arguing over if it REALLY takes 10 years, if it can be done in less, or if it takes longer…
Which completely misses the point!
The point of the quote is simply that success doesn’t ACTUALLY happen overnight…
It’s by doing the little things, the things that go unnoticed, day in and day out, until one day they all come together into something massively profitable for your business.
It’s just like an iceberg. Everyone sees the tip of the iceberg, but what you don’t see are the thousands of feet of ice beneath the surface.
The same is true in your business. When you see someone’s sudden success, know that what you DON’T see are the hours (days, weeks, months) of work they put in to make it happen.
So let’s get practical: What can we do TODAY to become an “overnight success” in the future?
Step #1: Start SMALL
Too many people go for strategies with the biggest investment, the most complicated strategies, and the most expensive channels…
My advice is to always choose a strategy based on your time and budget.
Focus on what makes sense to you and where you feel your strengths lie.
Can’t afford to run Facebook Ads? No problem! There are dozens of free methods out there for generating traffic that we go over in the course, on these newsletters, and on our YouTube channel.
Not ready to record YouTube Videos? No sweat! Start with Solo Ads & Email Marketing to focus on your copywriting skills
The point is, while it’s important to try new things and break through new barriers, be careful not to burn yourself out by biting off more than you can chew.
Make no mistake...These small activities, done consistently, day in and day out, will add up to something BIG for your business.
That brings us to Step #2: Focus on ONE Thing
If I’ve convinced you to start small, now I want to convince you to pick ONE small thing and put all of your focus there.
Often I’ll see beginners try every method possible when they’re just getting started…
-Solo Ads
-Instagram Posting
-Youtube Videos
-Facebook Fan Pages
-Posting in Forums or Facebook Groups
^ Yes, these are all great ways to start small, but they take a LOT of time to both learn and apply daily.
My advice is to find the ONE that suits you best and become a master.
Some of you in the group are VERY good at answering questions in forums and directing them to a product over a private message.
Others are very skilled at writing persuasive emails and focus on Solo Ads…
While others are great on camera.
Whatever method you choose, your goal should be to master that ONE thing before moving on to Step #3 which is…
Automate & Scale!
Once you’ve mastered your ONE thing to the point where it can be done on autopilot - THEN you can think about moving on to another method to help grow your business.
But too often I see entrepreneurs attempt to automate one strategy BEFORE they’ve mastered it.
Don’t do that.
Follow the steps I’ve laid out above if you GROW the right way:
#1: Start Small, Focus on the little things that you CAN do in your business each day. Eventually your capacity and skills will grow and grow.
#2: Focus on ONE thing and become a master of THAT rather than jumping around to every potential.
#3: Once you’ve mastered your ONE thing, set it on autopilot and find another ONE thing to master. :)
Good luck!
