Ever wonder what the world’s best advertisers are doing to sell their products, courses, and programs?
I know I have…
In fact, I’m old enough to remember paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for this type of information.
I would buy something called a “swipe file,” often for a high price, which would contain some of the best pieces of the century from world-class copywriters and marketers.
Then came Facebook, and with targeted advertising I had the chance to see new ads from my favourite marketers every single day.
So frantically I would save every ad I came across and would copy & paste their contents into a google doc so I could study them at a later date.
I even had a friend who conditioned his news feed to ONLY show ads when he signed on so he could be inundated with great marketing all the time.
I still purchased swipe files but these random bits of marketing were a treat for a few years.
Reading great ads and strong copy is without a doubt the best way to get fresh ideas and learn how to structure my ads to make them both engaging and persuasive.
I learned how to write short sentences that packed a punch, as well as a really really REALLY long copy that drew the reader in and eventually led a totally cold prospect into a high ticket sale.
Studying advertisements was worth every penny I invested.
But the crazy part?
Studying great copy is no longer only accessible to those who spend thousands, or even hundreds…
In fact, you don’t need a penny to check out some of the best ads on the market.
All you need is are a few URLs and a large cup of coffee.
I’ll get into where you can find great native and google ads in a later newsletter, but today I want to show you where you can find million dollar ads at your fingertips, for free.
It’s called the Facebook Ads Library and as part of an initiative for Facebook to provide more transparency to their users on why they see the ads they see, we digital marketers get to benefit by getting to see headlines, videos, images, and body copy from world-class advertisers for free.
Check it out right here.
Now, just a quick tutorial on how to use this tool best because while this is an insanely useful tool for us, it wasn’t exactly designed for marketers to use.
Step 1
Whatever niche you’re in, begin by searching for someone in the industry you really like or admire. Let’s say we like Tony Robbins so we’ll plug him into Google.
Step 2
Drop to the bottom right of your search results and click on “People also search for…” You’ll find more great names similar to Robbins like Jim Rohn, Les Brown, Robert Kiyosaki, Brian Tracy…
Step 3
Upload these names in a Google Doc to remember who you’re searching for.
Step 4
Now, begin to plug these names into the Facebook Ads Library and look for their Fan Pages. Remember, you’ll want a variety here to learn as much as you can.
Step 5
Now for the fun part. Click on each respective Fan Page and scroll over to “Active” Ads. You’ll now see every active ad these top notch entrepreneurs are running. Some of these ads are generating millions and you can access every one of them for free.
Pretty powerful right?
Be careful, this site is very addicting and you might find yourself reading up on all of your favourite pages’ ads for hours like me!
Now, as you can imagine, I would never condone stealing ads or using the exact same copy.
This site should only be used to draw inspiration from, learn what words work, and see how to structure your ads.
You’ll begin to notice patterns in the ads the more you view them and writing your own will come naturally.
You’ll notice phrases that are often repeated which let you know that if multiple marketers are using them they must be working!
And while I’m embarrassed to share how much I’ve personally spent over the years on my own swipe files and opportunities to read great ads, I’m proud to be able to share this site with you so you can access all I had and more, completely free.
Please enjoy!
To Your Success!
Steve.
